ATHLETIC TRAINING SERVICES AT THE B4 CLUB

Certified Athletic Trainers (ATCs) are a vital part of any sports medicine team. Their primary goal is to keep athletes healthy, safe, and physically prepared to perform at their best. ATCs specialize in all aspects of athlete care — from injury prevention to rehabilitation — ensuring optimal performance and long-term well-being.

Certified Athletic Trainers operate within five key domains of athletic healthcare:

· Injury Prevention
· Clinical Evaluation and Diagnosis
· Immediate and Emergency Care
· Treatment and Rehabilitation
· Organization and Professional Health & Well-Being

With participation in high school and college athletics steadily increasing — over 7.9 million high school athletes and nearly 500,000 college athletes in the 2017–2018 academic year — the physical demands on young athletes have never been higher. As training intensity grows, so does the risk of injury, making access to skilled athletic training more important than ever.

At B4 Club Therapy, we offer athletic training services on a consultation basis to help schools, clubs, and teams enhance athlete safety and performance without the financial strain of a full-time staff position.

Our services include:

· On-site athletic training during practices, games, and conditioning sessions
· Individual and team injury assessments
· Customized recovery, strength, and mobility programs
· Training and nutrition recommendations to support performance goals

This flexible, subcontracted service model allows teams to benefit from certified expertise based on their specific needs and budget — providing a cost-effective solution that supports coaches, athletes, and athletic programs alike.

COLLEGE & INDIVIDUAL ATHLETE SUPPORT

College athletics present a higher level of competition, intensity, and pressure than ever before. With demanding training schedules and the constant drive to perform, athletes often face challenges that go beyond the playing field. While most college programs have sports medicine teams in place, the sheer number of athletes can make it difficult to provide the individualized care each athlete deserves.

At B4 Club Therapy, our Sports Medicine Services are designed to bridge that gap. We collaborate with existing athletic staff to serve as additional “eyes and ears” for athlete care — offering focused, one-on-one support both on-site and in our clinic. Our goal is to enhance recovery, prevent injury, and help athletes sustain peak performance throughout their season and beyond.

We also work with individual athletes who want to take their performance and recovery to the next level. Whether you’re part of a competitive team or simply an active individual striving to improve your fitness, we’ll help you develop a personalized injury prevention and muscle recovery plan to optimize movement, reduce risk, and unlock your full potential.

B4 Club Therapy was founded by Superman Berrow, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology & Exercise Science and a Master’s degree in Athletic Training. With over 10 years of experience working with high school, collegiate, and professional athletes — including teams such as the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, Penn State University, and the University of Kentucky — Superman continues to help athletes perform better, recover faster, and stay in the game longer.

Hydration Study with Claysburg-Kimmel Varsity Football

At B4 Club Therapy, we believe performance starts with the fundamentals—and hydration is one of the most critical yet commonly overlooked factors in athlete health and recovery. To better understand and address dehydration in high school athletes, our team conducted a comprehensive hydration study with the Claysburg-Kimmel Varsity Football Team during preseason training camp.

Over the course of five days, we implemented a structured hydration monitoring system that included:

  • Urine specific gravity testing to measure internal hydration levels

  • Daily body weight tracking to monitor fluid loss and replacement needs

  • Urine color analysis to provide an easy, real-time visual hydration reference

This approach allowed us to identify players at higher risk for dehydration and provide individualized hydration strategies to improve performance, reduce cramping, and support recovery.

The results were clear:
By the end of the study, 97% of athletes were properly hydrated.
And five weeks into the regular season, only one player experienced cramping—related to illness, not hydration.

As Varsity Head Coach Chuck Kassick shared with the Altoona Mirror:

“In football camp, Berrow conducted an experiment on how to minimize dehydration among student athletes. Five days later, 97% of those athletes were properly hydrated.”

This initiative highlights the impact of proactive hydration education and monitoring in preventing performance decline, muscle cramping, and heat illness—especially during high-intensity, high-heat training periods.

We are proud of the work led by our Director of Human Performance, Superman Berrow, and supported by our 2025 Summer Data Analytics Intern, Peter Shivas, whose contributions were instrumental in the success of this project.
